3 Pinoys die in road mishap in Jeddah
SAUDI ARABIA - Three overseas Filipino workers were killed when one of the tires of the vehicle they were riding blew out Thursday afternoon in Jeddah.
The fatalities were identified as Gerardo Bernal, Jenefrey Monteclaro and Karamuddin Dimalaya. Both Bernal and Monteclaro worked as mechanics, while Dimalaya was employed as a company driver.
All three were employees of the Mohammad Munsour Al Bassami Group Construction. The company has about 30 Filipinos, including the victims, under its employ.
According to a colleague, there were 10 of them on board a small pick up truck on their way home from Dahban, 140 kilometers away from Jeddah City Center, when the accident happened past 6 p.m. on Thursday.
One of the tires of the pick up suddenly burst, throwing them off the vehicle. The three Filipinos were killed instantly.
Bernal's wife Fe said the 49-year old father of three had been planning to go home next year when his two-year contract expires.
"Sana mapauwi na ang asawa ko sa lalong madaling panahon," Fe said.
The remains of the victims are currently at the King Fahad Hospital.
