Pinay allegedly jumps to death in Kuwait
KUWAIT – A Filipina household service worker died after allegedly jumping off from the 12th floor of a residential building in Kuwait.
The Egyptian employer of Love Joy Pineda Balagat said she jumped off from the bathroom window of their apartment on the 12th floor on September 27.
Her family suspects foul play as they do not believe that she jumped to her death.
The 28-year-old OFW native of Maitum, Sarangani Province has a husband and a child. She arrived in Kuwait only last April 24, 2013.
Her employer said Balagat killed herself because her husband was cheating on her. However, her husband vehemently denied this.
He said the employer was not giving his wife her wages. He said that in five months, she was only able to send money home twice. The amount, he said, was only a little over P6,000.
The employer, he said, even brought his wife to Egypt.
Based from his wife's text messages, she was already having problems with her employer and had wanted to go home.
Yan daw ang sinasabi sa kanya," her cousin Mary Jane said.
Balagat's sister-in-law, who also works in Kuwait, only learned about her death when she phoned her employer in the hopes of talking to her.
Her family is appealing to the embassy for help to obtain justice.
For its part, the embassy promised to look into Balagat's case.
"Pini-pressure namin ang police to give us the police report. We’re pressuring also the different parties. We meet with the agencies, abugado ng agency para malaman natin ang actual cause of death," said Consul General, Atty. Raul Dado.
