Fil-Am YouTube sensation gives up nursing for singing
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, California - With nearly 40,000 followers and over 3 million views and growing, 26-year-old singer and song writer Melissa Polinar is becoming a YouTube sensation.
“I just thought, man this is such a cool idea to present original stuff so people know what they are. So by the time I sing on stage, people would know what they’re hearing and people kept asking for more,” said Polinar.
After 2 years of sharing her music through YouTube, Polinar is now taking her show on the road. She takes joy in seeing her fans sing along.
“There’s no radio, there’s no extensive sophisticated marketing and promotion and yet there’s people singing along. It’s a great feeling,” she added.
Polinar nearly became a nurse like many of her family members. But she realized music was her passion when she landed a job as song writer for the Warner Chappell record label at age 18.
“I signed up to become a nurse. At the beginning when I got signed in publishing as a song writer, that kind of made it click and was like Melissa this is something you want to do for the rest of your life,” she said.
The Dallas, Texas-based musician is hoping to land bigger things. Aside from publishing new videos on her YouTube on a monthly basis, she is also working on releasing her first album by the end of this year. Balitang America
