Fil-Am charged with texting-while-driving death
ANAHEIM, Calif – The trial has been set for a Filipino-American from San Diego, California accused of killing another driver while texting and driving.
A jury trial for Jorene Nicolas has been set for Dec. 5.
Prosecutors claim that the 29-year-old Nicolas was texting while driving on an Orange County freeway in 2011.
The distraction allegedly caused her to hit another vehicle at 80 miles per hour, killing the other driver Deanna Mauer.
If convicted of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, Nicolas can face up to six years in prison.
