KENT – Mr. Philippines Andrew Wolff finished 1st runner up at Mr. World 2012 after a consistently good performance at the two-week competition.

Forty-eight men from around the world vied for this year’s title, each proving they have qualities of the "ideal man" - style, looks, communication, strength, athleticism, talent and personality.

“It feels great. Sorry to the fans out there. I wanted to come first para sa Pilipinas. But 1st runner up is good, and I'm happy,” Wolff told ABS-CBN News at the event.

“I'm proud to be a Pinoy. I'm proud to represent the Philippines. It's a privilege and an honor. Salamat po kay Ms. Cory Quirino at sa Miss World Philippines na piliin ako for this competition. I tried to do the role justice and do my best here. We've come up 1st runner up. So not bad,” he said.

Wolff, a rugby player from the national team Philippine Volcanoes, ranked highly throughout the different stages of the competition, particularly the physical challenges which included different sports and an obstacle course.

The actor and model also clinched the Multimedia Award after winning the challenge to present a travelogue story through video and social media on the contestants’ visit to the old English town of Canterbury.
“Nakakagulat. Akala ko, mga 10th or 20th yung presentation ko. But the fact that I won is indescribable. Incredible feeling,” he said.

At the grand finals held at Kent Event Centre in Maidstone, England, the 27-year-old went through comfortably to the Top 10, joining representatives from Canada, Peru, Colombia, Belgium, England, Lebanon, Croatia, Ireland and Vietnam.

Columbia’s Francisco Parra, who was equally consistent throughout the competition, eventually bagged the title of Mr. World 2012, followed closely by Mr. Philippines in second place, with Ireland’s Leo Delaney in third place.

“My initial goal was makapasok sa Top 10. The fact that I got to Top 3, and then 2nd, is just incredible. It's an experience I'll carry with me for the rest of my life,” said Wolff.

“I never expected it to be this hard. Yung mga sports challenge, extreme challenge, multimedia, lahat it's been sobrang enjoyable. And credit to all the candidates. They're all Mr. World. Any one of them could have won the competition tonight.”

Filipinos in the UK came out to support Wolff at the finals, bringing loud cheers and waving the Philippine flag as they watched the contest with a five-course dinner.

“Grabe, akala ko siya na ang mananalo. He deserves to be a winner. He looks fabulous, he's gorgeous, very physique, very sporty, he's got everything. He’s perfect,” said London-based hairdresser Philip de Vera.
Wolff’s mother, Dizonna Penaflorida, also attended the event, proudly watching her son as he represented the Philippines in the international stage.

“It feels amazing. I'm so proud of him. I can't believe it,” she said.

She also told her son: “Don't be too disappointed, because you've done so well and I'm proud of you.”

Wolff, who admits to being highly competitive, showed his disappointment for missing the top prize as he apologized to fans on Facebook.

He wrote: “2nd place, guys. Sorry. :’(  Salamat sa inyong lahat diyan! Mahal ko kayo!”

Thousands of Filipinos from the Philippines and around world showed their support through social media by following and interacting with Wolff’s official Mr World pages on Facebook and Twitter. Many left messages of encouragement and appreciation throughout the competition.

In his interview with ABS-CBN News, he said: “Sa lahat ng mga sumuporta sa akin sa Pilipinas, maraming salamat po sa inyo. It's been incredible and your support has really driven me all the way to tonight. Salamat po.”

Mr World 2012 will be broadcasted across the world in a six-part documentary in 2013, hosted by British Filipina TV personality Myleene Klass and former Mr World Kamal Ibrahim.
