MANILA, Philippines – A Filipino trailer truck driver lost his right foot after he was sideswiped by another vehicle in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Reynaldo Acuno, 57, said his life changed on the fateful morning of November 22.

Nakaladkad siguro ako mga 10 meters,” said Acuno who has been working in the Kingdom for 13 years now.

Acuno said the accident happened while he was on the side of the road talking to a colleague while waiting for help to come after one of the tires of the truck he was driving suddenly burst.

He said he was not able to save his foot as it was stuck under the tire of the dump truck driven by an Eritrean national. The suspect has been arrested.

Acuno is unsure of what lies ahead for him now that he lost his right foot due to the accident.

“Iyon na nga ang problema. Uuwi ako. Dito lang, hindi naman ako makapagtrabaho. Hindi ko alam kung ano ang gagawin ko,” he said.

He assured his wife and their seven children that he will return home as soon as the case is settled.

The OFW likewise appealed to the Philippine Consulate for help.

Report from Charles Tabbu, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau
