MANHATTAN, NY – What started out as a jewelry-making hobby since the age of 10, turned into a successful Filipina-owned jewelry business in Brooklyn, New York.

Guenevere Rodriguez and her friend sold their glass and wooden bead jewelry for $6 each in flea markets.

“To experience that at a young age, and to sell things and to have people to want things from you, I feel it’s so much easier to carry it off when you’re older,” said Rodriguez.

Today, the Filipino-American makes high fashion jewelry made from crystals, gold, silver and silk.

“Guenevere Rodriguez” – the jewelry brand has been featured in top fashion magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Elle and the New York Times style magazine.

She was also commissioned to make custom jewelry for stars like Sarah Jessica Parker, Uma Thurman, and Tyra Banks among many others. Her jewelry gallery in Williamsburg-Brooklyn was recently featured on NBC.

“The biggest factor which I know is that I love it. I love what I do, I’m obsessed with it, I enjoy it, you know… I’m excited by it,” said Rodriguez.

Creativity is in Rodriguez’s genes. Her grandfather Manuel Rodriguez brought print-making to the Philippines in the 60’s, which led to the graphic arts movement in the Philippines.

Rodriguez showed off her latest creations at her “Holiday Jewelry Show and Sale” to a crowded showroom in Manhattan, New York.

One of her loyal customers, Ruth Levy, said, “You can’t find these anywhere. You could tell that they’re very unique in a sense that it was made for you, like you can’t buy these in department stores. I have a couple of her pieces. I love to come to her. ”

Edwin Josue added, “It’s very spiritual, because she’s using all the stones, and stones emanate energy, so she’s very very passionate in creating those designs that speak of spirituality.”

After two years of penny pinching, consumers said they are feeling the urge to splurge on these one of a kind creations. Balitang America
