Fil domestic worker sues NY architect for sexual harassment
NEW YORK–A Filipina domestic worker from Queens, New York is suing her former employer, a prominent architect for unpaid wages, sexual harassment and battery.
Lilia Sia alleged that she suffered physical injuries, including contusions and deep bruises on her upper arms and elbow when her former boss Eytan Kaufmann grabbed her, without provocation, dragged her out of his room and pushed her backwards, causing her to fall on the floor – on the day her employment was terminated by Kaufman in July.
Sia also claimed the 78-year old Kaufman repeatedly touched her inappropriately; massaging her buttocks or touching her breasts, during the course of her employment.
Court documents also showed that Sia allegedly worked over 50 hours a week, and did not receive appropriate overtime pay for the regular and extra hours she had worked.
Sia is seeking compensatory damages for unspecified amount of back pay and unpaid overtime, as well as compensatory damages for physical and emotional distress, humiliation, pain and suffering.
She is also seeking punitive damages.
