The flight of the pope
A helicopter carrying Pope Benedict XVI takes off from inside the Vatican on its way to Castel Gandolfo on Thursday. Benedict left the world stage on Thursday after a private last goodbye to cardinals and a short flight to the papal summer residence to enter the final phase of his life in retreat.
