Wakeboarding in Camsur is well on its way to world wide fame! Sports Unlimited can’t resist the powerful pull of extreme sports. Wakeboarders gone wet and wild! Were also got Marc as one of the judges on Miss Earth.
A tour of Naga let's you discover this city's rich culture and heritage that makes Nagawenyos proud of their colorful past. Ciudad Nin Naga has been, for hundreds of years, a center of trade, education and culture. Some of this year's Miss Earth Candidates re-visited this city's past and also experienced the hospitality and warmth of the Bicolanos.
This 2nd Camsur National Wakeboarding Competition is a preview to who will be representing the Philippines and other countries during the big international
championships that are scheduled to be held here next year.
Governor LRay Villafuerte made the announcement that the Asian Cable Wakeboarding Championships will be held in this cable park in May 2008, and shortly after, will be followed by the biggest international wakeboarding competition. The World Cable Championships. CWC won the bid as the venue for The World Cable Championships that is set for the first week of July 2008. This event will bring the best wake boarders in the world to Camarines Sur. Many of which have already spent a number of months here totally enjoying everything this cable park and province has to offer.
Gov. LRay is a big believer that you can learn wakeboarding and compete at any age. We've seen 3 to 6 year-old competitors and we recently heard that there is a Filipina woman in her 60's who wakeboards. To encourage everyone to take up the sport as well as compete even in your later years, this 2nd Camsur Nationals has a new Veteran’s Category for competitors that are 40 years and up.
The Miss Earth candidates added prestige and prettiness to this year's national competition. The candidates enjoyed watching all the wakeboarding that was going on as much as everyone enjoyed gazing at their stunning faces and beautiful bodies. It may have been a cloudy and rainy day at the cable park but still these beauties were glowing during their photo shoot.
There were no big surprises as far as who made it to the Semi finals of the Women’s Open Category, what was different though in this year's competition as compared to last year is how many more women are getting involved in competitive wakeboarding and that number continues to increase. This Women’s Finals has shown everybody watching how much the level of women's wakeboarding has improved. These ladies are really impressing everyone with how much more creative and daring they have become with their moves in the water and their tricks when hitting the kickers. In this Women’s Finals anyone can take the top prize. The ladies know that they have to impress the judges with a smooth ride and more tricks, and then it will boil down to the landing, who sticks and who falls.
The crowd is really getting very involved in this Women’s Finals round. They can sense that the competition is very close and that one fall can spell the difference between first, second and third place. Who handles the pressure better? Who is willing to go the extra trick to seal the deal?
The results are in. 3rd place, with a very consistent performance went to Andrea Sevilla. 2nd place, and in our opinion of the most improved ladies went to Joyce Recto, and finally, 1st place, with the most impressive and gutsy rides we've seen from the women, Jeena Lopez is our Women’s Champion. Her hard work has paid off. Congratulations to all the women wake boarders. They definitely gave us a great show.
In the Men’s Pro semi finals, you can really sense how passionate these guys are about this sport, and how much they relish the rush you get from wakeboarding. If there's one thing that wakeboarding proves, it's that the Pinoy has no problem getting up right after falling. This brings to mind a life advice that you hear every now and then "what does not kill you will only make you stronger and better." But make no mistake folks, you also need to know how to fall, part of knowing how to ride is how to fall safely, remember, safety should always be in the back of your mind and a priority when wakeboarding.
For someone who has the reputation of being a joker and an avid partier, JV Tanjanco takes his wakeboarding very seriously, a very fierce competitor and one of our very best riders today. JV is always a lot of fun to be with outside the water and even more fun to watch when he is riding.
When couples share a passion for the same thing, they are such a sweet sight to see. We're talking about husband and wife Ernie and Jeena Lopez as well as Arthur and Martha King. They are perfect examples of a couple that are each other’s biggest fans.
The Men’s Pro Finals Division had the most number of entries in this year's Camsur Nationals. Just to let you know, yes these guys are buddies and very chummy with each other when not wakeboarding, but believe us when we tell you that come tournament time, there is nothing these guys want more than to out do each other. It's all about busting out the better tricks. It's all about impressing each other with fancier landings.
It's all about getting higher than each other in the air. It's all about who has the longest hang time, and then there's the bottom line, winning always feels better.
Every once in a while you get to witness a rare and insane trick. Sometimes they are planned, sometimes they are not. This is a trick on the fun box kicker that we assure you will be on every highlight video reel. Check out this jump by Ricky Otilla. Do not try this if you are not an advanced rider and as insane as Ricky.
After watching the Men's pro finals, everybody was anticipating the results and here they are: 3rd place did his board have wings? No, it did not, but he did not need them to bag the third top honor, Ricky Otilla. 2nd place went to the very popular Dan Saraza, and this year's Men’s Pro Champion, now he can say he has won it all, Arthur King. We'll surely be seeing all these guys’ in future international competitions that will be held here proudly representing the Philippines.
There was no other person happier than Jeena when they announced that Ernie took the top prize in the Men’s Veterans Division. Well done Ernie. In the Junior Men’s Category,
the Villafuerte brothers dominated with Julio edging out his brother Miguel.
When the sun went down and the wakeboarding was over, my partner Marc still had more to look forward to, some of the most beautiful ladies on earth parading in their swimsuits. I know what you boys out there are saying, "some guys just have all the luck" |
