It is the season to be jolly so we’re heading to one of the jolliest places in town. The Global Fun Carnival. Sports Unlimited making the most out of a merry Christmas.
Christmas and carnivals go hand in hand. The festive atmosphere of Christmas is recreated in a grand scale at a carnival where instead of just having a lighted Christmas tree, you have colossal carnival rides fully lighted in Technicolor, twisting and turning all around the carnival grounds. There's something for everyone at a carnival. Fairytale rides for toddlers and kids, adrenaline-rush type rides for teenagers, and there are carnival games for those who like to challenge their skills and bring home any of the array of stuff toys as a prize.
You can say that a carnival is only as good as its Ferris wheel. You have to agree that a Ferris wheel sets the standard for how big or how small the carnival is, that came to your town. Based on the Ferris wheel here, we're in for a big time carnival. At the top of this Ferris wheel, you can see all of Roxas Blvd., and Pasay City. The look on Mathew's face when on this Ferris wheel says it all. That Christmas is all about the merriment and amazement you see in the eyes of kids that never cease to fulfill every parent.
Another sure-fire fun time for kids, may it be at a children's party or a carnival are big inflatable toys where kids can bounce frantically, toss, turn and tumble with nothing to worry about except getting back up when you fall and then bounce all over again.
Slides are always a hit with kids especially when they are really big and when you make them inflatable like this one, then they become irresistible.
Aside from the sights and sounds of a carnival, there's also the sensational smell at a carnival that is a result of the fusion of foods that are sold at the different booths. The smell of freshly grilled Pinoy barbecue on a stick almost had a sort of hypnotic effect on Marc that immediately drew him directly towards the barbecue stand.
As expected, there is a long line before you could get your doze of being banged up on the bump cars. Before the days of the X-games and bungee jumping, you were considered to be pretty brave and daring when you got into the bump car arena. There is something very liberating about being able to hit another car head on, or rear-ending someone's bumper without having to suffer the consequences. There are no good or bad drivers when in bump car roads in fact, the badder the driver, the better the bump.
You can always buy a stuff toy anywhere, but winning one at a carnival gives you a different kind of satisfaction. The funny part is when trying to win one at a carnival you end up spending more to play the game then if you just went ahead and bought a stuff toy. I guess you can label this syndrome as a chronic carnival customer. Someone who just has to have something from the carnival no matter what it takes.
You can buy your kids a space ship for Christmas, your kids can watch a movie with space ships, but it's only at a carnival where kids can actually ride a space ship. You can see it in children's faces what they are thinking, "I’m an astronaut and this is my own space ship!” This is a natural talent that kids seem to have mastered, being able to suspend reality for as long as they choose.
Marc is determined to win and bring home a stuff toy from the carnival. Unfortunately this is not his year to do, so you may have to wait till next year partner when the carnival comes back to town.
We decided to save our rush for last. A ride on this ship is far from cruisin'. Warning, if you are sensitive when it comes to being upside down, you may want to steer clear from this ride. You will see more of Marc on this ride because looking at me on it is not a pretty sight. Trust me. Talking from experience, you may want to take this ride first before filling yourself up with food, I'm sure you get the picture.
The fun is endless at a carnival. It just goes on and on. Maybe that's how we should look at this holiday. That we should not only celebrate Christmas in December, we should go past it making Christmas go on. and on making everyday Christmas. Making everyday a celebration, a celebration of life! |
