Look out world! Guam is on the fun map again. Sports Unlimited is a special guest of the Guam Visitors Bureau. No matter what type of vacationer you are, there is something for everyone to enjoy on this island. Guam is a great place to be.
It was back in 2005 when the Guam Visitors Bureau heard about Sports Unlimited passion for the outdoors and our insatiable appetite for fun and travel. That's when they said the island of Guam is tailor-made for a show like Sports Unlimited. It was our first time in Guam and boy; we definitely got the "red carpet "adventure travel treatment!
How many people have you actually heard saying, "before I die I want to try skydiving”? Well, here's what we're saying, "why wait”? Head to Guam and just do it. We assure you, talking from an adventure standpoint, a tandem skydive like this is an adrenalin rush like no other. Although it may sound like a cliché', there really are no words to describe what free-falling for thousands of feet feels like. Here's my best pitch on why you should not pass up the chance to skydive in Guam. Simply put, it takes adventure to new heights.
If skydiving is totally out of the question for you, there's still ton to do to enjoy in Guam.
Let's break this down to types of vacationers. If you're the calm R and R type of traveler, there's the Guam countryside, picturesque and pleasing to the eye. If you're the add-to-my-knowledge-of-world culture and history type of traveler, you can visit the manycultural and historic sights throughout the island. If you're ever in doubt about where different types of travelers can enjoy the same thing, you can never go wrong with tickets to a magnificent magic show. Satisfaction guaranteed for everyone! And of course, there needs to be a place where both kids and adults can enjoy a trip to a video arcade is a surefire bet. Caution though, no problem getting your kids in, there could be a problem pulling your kids out due to sheer amusement.
We had a grand time in Guam in 2005, fast forward 2 years, October 2007; we got an invitation to come visit Guam again. You know our show's motto, you give us outdoor fun and we will come. On this trip we stayed at the Pacific Islands Club Resort where water is the source of a whole lot of enjoyment and excitement. There are a number of pools all around the resort grounds, but the pools here are not just for you to swim in, they've added so many other fun elements, slides for one. Believe me though when I say that this particular slide took us by surprise. What a whirlwind of a ride, heart rising.
Adventurous and daring kids like my son Mat will so enjoy this slide. He just could not get enough of it. Even big kids like Marc and Corey definitely found this slide very exciting. You can't see us from the inside, but you are really going down at top speed, scary but definitely worth it.
The slide is definitely a fun element. Now add a challenge element to a fun element and you have even more fun. Check out this floating ladder contraption they have in this pool.
Once Mathew tried this floating ladder challenge in the pool, he was instantly hooked. Well, knowing my son, he has this "try and try until you die" type of attitude. He just refused to stop till he got to the end and back of the ladder without falling, that's the goal.
Watching Mat trying this over and over again made me say to myself that persistence is one less thing I need to instill in my son, he definitely is persistent already.
Although the square floaters in this ladder look big, keeping your balance on them is not easy. We've never had this novelty before in a pool, it's so much fun to try and we stayed on it for a while. It definitely scored big points in our “fun score board”!
When it comes to Marc and Corey, any activity that's got water in it is an opportunity to just get wild and crazy. No need to advice these two to throw caution in the wind. Not only are the pools here at the Pacific Islands Club fun and exciting, these pools are also so aesthetically pretty. Infinity type pools with waterfalls, we could not resist doing the all-popular-pretend-photo shoot under the falls, silly yes, but why not? Silly is healthy every once in a while. When it comes to fun and pretty pools, the pools here at the P.I.C. are in the big leagues.
While Marc was busy kite surfing, Jackie and I decided to take a stroll around the beach. We happen to see a volleyball game going on among the locals, we decided to take a chance and ask them if we could join them. The answer we got was a resounding yes!
Right away this game turned competitive. All of these guys and gals are close buddies, but you can never guess that from how they taunt each other after a point is won. It was amusing to see how this gang would tease each other and make fun of each other. Even Jackie and I started getting competitive, and then we had no other choice but to join in on the teasing. Things were starting to get personal too, in a nice, funny, silly way of course.
Then after a while, the game took another turn. All these good looking eligible Guamanians started making a plea to our cameras for a beautiful Filipina to be their girlfriend. All of a sudden I felt I was watching an episode of The Bachelor in Guam.
It was a hot and humid day but we were having so much fun with this great gang that we just kept playing. My team won the first set, but Jackie's team convinced her to play another set so they could get even. The second set was definitely closer than the first.
Jackie's team just refused to loose, and they were giving it all they had to take this set, problem was my team wanted to win more than anything else. It was a full on battle now, check out how this game ended. Jackie's team may have lost this volleyball game, but I can honestly say that this great gang definitely won our hearts over. Proof of how Guamanians are warm, fun-loving real people.
We've had a terrific time here in Guam. We conquered the koko race challenge. We tasted heavenly deserts from this paradise island. We satisfied our adventure juices, surfing, windsurfing, kite surfing. We had a wonderful time in the water.
Guam has definitely lived up to its name. G for Great time, U for Unbelievable experience, A for Adrenaline rush and M for Must come back. We got exactly what we wished for in Guam. Outdoor fun, and there's still so much more to do. Christmas is just around the corner, let your Santa wish include a trip to Guam. You have a Sports Unlimited seal of guaranteed fun on that present.
