The highest thrill in Vegas

By DYAN CASTILLEJO GARCIA

LAS VEGAS - This is the Stratosphere Hotel, home of the world's four largest thrill rides.

Listen to this: These thrill rides are on a tower that’s on top of the Stratosphere Hotel. So why are these rides considered the world's highest thrill rides? That's because the tower is about 1,000 feet up.

Basically to get to the rides you go through the hotel and take the elevators up to the tower. When you get off on the 108th floor, that brings you to this spectacular observation deck that gives you an incredible view of all of Las Vegas.

Looking out from the tower's indoor observation deck your brain gets to absorb just how high up you are. After it registers, you need to go even higher up to get on the rides.

To get on the "Big Shot Ride," you need to go to get off at the 112th floor. When you get to the Big Shot Ride outside the tower you are 999 feet up.

This is where you get on ride. Now if that’s not intimidating enough, here's where the extra thrill kicks in: You get on the ride that’s on the tower about 999 feet up then you blast up to about 1,150 feet.

Not thrilling enough still?

Try blasting up from 999 feet to 1,150 feet in five seconds and then its over? No, it's not because then you free-fall back down to where you started.

It's almost impossible to describe the feeling you get when you shoot up so high in such a short time. Maybe the best way I could describe it for you to get an idea when we shot up that high and that fast I felt like both my legs were stuck in my throat. Can you imagine feeling the wind on your face from almost 1,150 feet up?

When we were at the Macao Tower if you all remember seeing that on a few shows last year, we jumped down from about 750 feet. From this Stratosphere tower we shot up to over 1,000 feet and that is a totally, different experience altogether.

If you thrive on adrenaline rushes then the Big Shot may be one of your best bets. I can safely say there is nothing like this ride. The Big Shot thrill ride gets a big thumbs up from us.

If the Big Shot thrill ride shoots you up the tower of Stratosphere Hotel, the "X-Scream" thrill ride literally lets you hang out of the tower. It’s like being on a roller coaster except the track runs out. So you are left suspended in the air, hanging from 866 feet.

Now if that’s not unbelievably insane, then we don't know what is.

You won't find a bigger thrill in all of Las Vegas. Co-host Marc Nelson was having the time of his life.

Our friend Priscilla obviously belongs with Marc because she was just as daring and enjoyed the ride just as much as Marc did.

I thought this was the most outrageous way to see the whole city of Las Vegas.

Again let me remind you we were one hundred and nine floors above the ground.

This was the first time I have ever been on a building that had more than one hundred floors and suddenly I find myself hanging out of it.

My sister Jackie Castillejo was beside me, terrified to the point that she was getting flashbacks of her life. Her palms were apple red from how tight she was gripping the handle bar of her seat. The picture they gave us after the ride says it all.

The next time you are in Las Vegas and you want to take your trip to a different level literally. Head to the Stratosphere Hotel and get on the Big Shot.

If you want to add some edge to your next trip to Vegas, check out the X-Scream.

They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Getting on these two highest thrill rides in the world at the stratosphere hotel and the rush we got. It is almost impossible to keep to ourselves.

We can't let it stay in Vegas.

We will be talking about this experience for a long time, wherever we go.

When we first saw the Las Vegas Athletic Club we thought it was a hotel, not a gym. That’s how large this gym is and the best part is: it's Pinoy-owned.

After following Manny Pacquiao and the road to his battle for some reason we all wanted to get on the ring. Manny has inspired all of us to get fitter and workout even more.

Apollo Sebastian is the president, CEO and head trainer of the Las Vegas Athletic Club. He trains a lot of the up and coming Universal Fighting Championship fighters.

Apollo prepared a very special Muay Thai workout for Marc, Priscilla and I and boy what a work out it was! Apollo says the Muay Thai workouts at his gym are becoming more and more popular. His classes are packed almost every time.

By the way, the Las Vegas Athletic Club is brand new, the grand opening was just last January 23rd.

Everybody knows that Vegas does not sleep. It’s known for its night life. So people who live and work in Vegas don't get off work till the wee hours of the morning so the gym is closed naturally. Nope. Not the Las Vegas athletic club.

Apollo took this fact into consideration and did not want to give anyone the excuse not to work out.

Listen to this, the Las Vegas Athletic Club is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a week. Now that's my type of gym.

So no matter what time of night you get off work, the doors of the Las Vegas Athletic Club will stay open for you .

The card games are not the only games you can play in Vegas. Marc, Priscilla and Jackie spent a morning at the New York, New York Hotel and played their hearts out. There will always be room in Vegas for everybody's child-like antics.

We have to admit, Vegas does bring out the playfulness in you.

In Las Vegas anything goes. Be it day or night. This city will always stand out its definitely different from any other city in the world. Heart-felt thanks to Thai Airways for bringing sports unlimited to this unique part of the world.

A trip to Las Vegas is a guaranteed fabulous time, for as long as you have game in you. Viva Las Vegas!
