In 1912, during the commemoration of the death of Jose Rizal, the urn containing the remains of the hero was transferred to Bagumbayan in an elaborate and solemn ceremony facilitated by the newly formed Caballeros de Rizal (Order of the Knights of Rizal), Rizal's family and the Masonic Lodge of the Philippines.
Anchored on the theme "Buhayin si Rizal sa Bawat Pilipino," the month-long commemoration of the national hero seeks to promote among Filipino youth the visions and ideals of Rizal, encouraging them to look up to the Filipino patriot as their role model.
To celebrate this year's Rizal Month, several activities are lined up throughout December. These will lead up to the commemoration of the 100th year of the transfer of Rizal’s remains from Tondo to Luneta.
