New tourism slogan: It's more fun in the Philippines
MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) - "It's more fun in the Philippines."
This is the country's newest tourism slogan launched by the Department of Tourism (DOT) to members of the press on Friday, months after the agency faced criticism over its failed "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" campaign.
Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. said during the event that they "want the world not to watch but to participate" in the new campaign.
He said "It's more fun in the Philippines" will be rolled out in international markets while the shorter "#1 for fun Philippines" will be the slogan for the domestic market.
"We need a line that is easily understood. Competitive. 'More fun in the Philippines' is true. Keri natin ito (Kaya natin ito)," Jimenez said about the concept, which was developed by advertising agency BBDO Guerrero.
The DOT decided to hold off on branding and marketing strategies last year after the "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" campaign was scrapped due to a major industry outcry.
Before "Pilipinas Kay Ganda," the country had the more popular "WoW Philippines" catch phrase as its tourism slogan.
Meanwhile, DOT announced that it will offer 30-day visas starting this year to "keep up with the competition."
The agency previously allowed tourists to stay in the country for only 21 days.
Netizens join in the fun
So what is "more fun" to do in the Philippines?
DOT came up with the following examples on its newly launched campaign website: commuting, getting upstairs, and posting status updates, each featuring a scenic destination in the country.
It showed "commuting" as traveling by boat, "posting status updates" while underwater, and going up the "stairs," or the world renowned Banawe Rice Terraces in Ifugao.
"Wherever you go in the Philippines, it's the Filipinos that will make your holiday unforgettable. Just ask anyone who's been here. In fact, Lonely Planet guidebook calls us 'among the most easygoing and ebullient people anywhere,'" the website said.
"Find out for yourself why it's more fun in the Philippines. And make the most out of your vacation."
Several Filipinos turned to Twitter to give their own versions of the slogan.
"Christmas and New Year is more fun in the Philippines," one user wrote.
"Eating is more fun in the Philippines," another user added.
"Blogging is more fun in the Philippines," celebrity stylist Jenni Epperson tweeted.
On Friday morning, the hashtags #ItsMoreFunInThePhilippines and #1forfun became top trending topics on Twitter worldwide.

[Joseph said the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) should consider including the terminal fees in the prices of the tickets so that passengers do not have to fall in line to pay for it. He said airlines pay the terminal fees to the airport based on the flight manifests.
"We are the only airport in the world charging terminal fee up front. All airports charge terminal fees but it is included in the ticket," he said.]
Just go to the airport and do a survey asking the passengers what changes they want to see take place....Scrap TERMINAL FEE LANE is what i'll say..
What could possibly be more fun in PHil?
It's not fun to be kidnapped in the Philippines.
It's not fun to be robbed in the Philippines.
It's not fun to be held hostage in the Philippines.
It's not fun to drown in sinking ships in the Philippines.
It's not fun to die from flooding or landslides.
It's not fun to face police extortionists.
It's not fun to face squatters who steal your land.
It's not fun to face a judge who extorts money from you.
It's not fun to face officials who are extortionists.
It's not fun to see children begging for money.
It's not fun to take Philippine taxis or public vehicles.
It's not fun to hear that the Philippines is the best when everyone knows its bullshit.
It's not fun to repeatedly listen to lies that pinoys are the best but everyone knows most end up working abroad wiping someones ass.
We should be at least honest with ourselves,
we are not the best, otherwise we wouldn't be the caregiver of the caucasians and middle eastern countries.
Most do the dirty jobs at the lowest end of the spectrum of employment.
BeLOVEd Philippines!!
“BeLOVEd Philippines”
"BeLOVEd Philippines" - My main concept in this slogan is the word "love." All of us should believe that love is the most wonderful thing on earth, and with love, we live and that nothing is impossible. Love encompasses everything, all beautiful things. It is higher than any superlatives you can think of to describe something. I believe that this will be a wonderful theme of the Philippine’s slogan that bespeaks not only of how can we attract tourists to come and visit our country, but also of how much we love the Philippines, thus I used the word "BeLOVEd" - which means greatly loved and dear to the heart. At this note, we can show to the world how much patriotic and nationalistic we are, and how much we are proud of the Philippines. Also, we are proud to say that we are Filipinos, and we take great pride of our country's people, heritage, and everything it has, such as culture, tradition, values, attractions, etc. This is very timely indeed as Filipinos are now taking pride of our fellow countrymen who make waves in the international arena, such as Manny Pacquiao, Charice, Lea Salonga, etc., and how much we as a people contribute to the world economy, through our OFWs and through the exportation of local products and services, and by welcoming foreign investments in the Philippines. With such regard, other countries will be more interested to go to our country to witness not only the beauty of the Philippines that its people love and take pride of, but most especially such high regard of the people to the country that they are visiting. The reason I capitalize the word “LOVE” is to emphasize its meaning as the center of the theme and to connote another meaning aside from the meaning of "beloved" as one word. Since the word BeLOVEd can be also interpreted as a two-word phrase – "be-loved." This means that once you come to the Philippines not only you will feel the love of the Filipinos to their country but most especially, you will "be loved" by them. With this notion, it will invoke many positive characters of who we are as citizens of the world, which is cheerful, positive, hospitable, caring, and loving people. Also, with the word LOVE emphasized, it will have another connotation of just the word “LOVEd” alone, which means that after you had experienced the Philippines, you will say that “I loved everything about it..and you can say that I once “loved” the Philippines for such a great experience I had in that place of paradise. So, I hope you all like my idea for our country's slogan. Once again - BeLOVEd Philippines!!!!
I am here to help as I take pride and love our country very much. And I am willing to take part in promoting this slogan even to become one of the spokesperson of this slogan. Please feel free to email me at mario32382@yahoo.com. - Mario Mendoza
We can have all the best slogans...but
Its not the slogans or even how beautiful our country is....its how the people, particularly the Govt handle its business. How come, Thailand has more tourists every year, more than 10x than the Phils? Objectively mas magaganda ang mga mapupuntahan sa atin.
I've been to Thailand several times-one thing you'll notice is even its a 3rd world country like us, meron kang sense of security. Same goes to Malaysia or for some weird reasons, even indonesia. basang basa ang papel ng Pinas sa corruption. Holdapin ang turista-pagtumakbo sa pulis--hihingian din {darn}
Every administration will come and go, and so are their Slogans.
If you make a survey from tourists why they come to a place---I dont think they will answer "Because of the slogan"

WoW, where's the FUN in you people?
Why don't you give it a chance? It was just released today. We've only seen a photo of the slogan. Yes, the effectiveness of the words are important, but so is the execution of the actual campaign that will follow later on.
The slogan may be long, but it's unconventional, colloquial, witty, and FUN. It speaks for itself. Considering that DOT is measly funded, this is promising.
