'Little Mermaid' dominates Broadway World PH awards
MANILA, Philippines – Atlantis Productions’ staging of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” ruled in the 2012 Broadway World Philippines Awards, getting a total of nine awards including Best Actress in a Musical for its lead star, Rachelle Ann Go.
Erik Santos, a recording artist of ABS-CBN, won the Best Crossover Artist Award for his role as Prince Eric in the musical.
“The Little Mermaid” also won awards for Best Choreography (Cecile Martinez), Best Costume Design (Eric Pineda), Best Direction of a Musical (Bobby Garcia and Chari Arespacochaga) Best Locally Produced Broadway Show (Atlantis Productions), Best Musical Direction (Ceejay Javier), Best Scenic Design (Lex Marcos) and Best Sound Design (Bobbit Jacinto).
The winners in the 2012 BWW Philippines Awards were chosen through online voting, with the results tabulated by BWW’s main office in New York, according to an article from broadwayworld.com, which added that an awarding ceremony will be held in Manila next month.
Meanwhile, the stage version of Lino Brocka’s critically acclaimed movie “Bona” bagged five awards in the 2012 BWW Philippines Awards, including the Best Actor in a Play and Best Actress in a Play awards for its lead stars Edgar Allan de Guzman and Eugene Domingo, respectively.
The Manila run of “The Phantom of the Opera” by Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, on the other hand, received four recognitions, including the Best Actor in a Musical award for Jonathan Roxmouth.
