SLIDESHOW: Deboto

Every year, the slew of festivals in the country opens with what is perhaps the grandest and with the biggest number of participants - -the feast of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila.

But who are the devotees in this procession?

Most of them are ordinary citizens with a strong faith, those who believe that God's intervention can help save them from their sins or the quagmire they are in.

Many trace their devotion from generations back, with the participation in the feast passed on by family tradition. They believe that the Black Jesus Christ, once touched, will give them power in their daily lives.
