Miss Tourism International recalls stumbling on stage
MANILA -- Life was not always easy for Miss Tourism International 2013 Angeli Dione Gomez, who recalled some of her low moments in previous beauty pageants.
Gomez admitted that she once stumbled on a beauty pageant stage, and also went through a "really bad" question and answer round in another contest.
"I did have bad experiences in my previous pageants. I've stumbled a little bit -- I never fell, but I stumbled on stage," she said in an interview on "Mornings@ANC" on Wednesday.
"I also had a really bad Q&A in Miss Resorts World," she added.
But instead of giving up, Gomez said these made her more determined to win a pageant. True enough, she brought home the Miss Tourisn International 2013 crown.
"I'm thinking, 'oh my goodness, it's a pattern, this can happen again.' But I said to myself, 'you can either think this way or think, all right, this happened to you so you learn from it and you're going to make it better.' And that's what I did," she said.
"That's what life is about. You fall, you make a mistake [but] you're not supposed to be just scared of it happening again. You learn from it and you get better."
Proud and happy, Gomez went on to share how she performed during the question and answer round of the Miss Tourism International 2013 pageant.
"The question was, 'how would you promote world peace?' And I kept my answer short and simple. I said I'd promote world peace by promoting tourism, because tourism allows us to see the beauty in each other's worlds and helps us understand each other's cultures.
"Understanding leads to acceptance and respect, and when people understand and respect each other, there will be peace. But I cut it a little bit shorter to not reach the limit."
Gomez is the second Filipina to win Miss Tourism International after Rizzini Alexis Gomez, who won the crown in 2012.
The Cebu beauty capped off a banner year for the Philippines in international beauty pageants. Among the Filipina pageant winners for 2013 are Megan Young (Miss World), Mutya Johanna Datul (Miss Supranational) and Bea Rose Santiago (Miss International).
