'Les Miserables' PH premiere cancelled on night of screening
MANILA, Philippines -- The local premiere of "Les Miserables" was cancelled on Wednesday night, moments before the musical drama film was set to be shown for the first time before a Filipino audience.
Invited audience members had already been allowed into the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila in Pasay City to be among the first in the country to see the Tom Hooper-directed film, when the organizers announced the cancellation of the premiere screening due to "technical difficulties."
In a text message to ABS-CBN News, organizer and local distributor Solar Entertainment said guests at the premiere "will be issued free replacement ticket to the regular screening" of the film at the Newport Cinemas.
Starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried, "Les Miserables" is the motion-picture adaptation of the popular, long-running stage musical of the same name.
The Working Title Films production will be released in the Philippines on January 16.
