Aegis songs inspire PETA musical
MANILA - The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) unveiled on Friday its latest offering, "Rak of Aegis," a musical comedy based on the music of Filipino rock band Aegis.
The musical, which will run from January 31 to March 9, will feature the band's popular songs including "Luha," "Halik," "Christmas Bonus," and "Basang-basa sa Ulan".
"Rak of Aegis" chronicles the story of a female mall employee who wants to be popular to help her village that was devastated by floods.
“It’s very exciting for us to do this," said director Maribel Legarda. "We have 20 songs that we will be using for the musical. Why we did it is because there’s no question na very iconic ang Aegis and they cut across all social classes. It’s very Pinoy."
Legarda also said the members of Aegis expressed their support for the project when it was brought to their attention.
The band is promoting the musical on its official Facebook page and its members are scheduled to attend the show’s premiere night.
Included in the musical’s cast members is theater veteran Isay Alvarez-Sena, who talked about her battle against leukemia during the musical’s press launch.
"Yeah [I am getting stronger]. A lot of people have been praying for me so I’m very thankful for that. Also, the diet is very very important. I went to a very drastic change of diet. I’m maintaining it. I’m eating everything now but in moderation. And I’m on my last treatment next month,” she said.
Alvarez-Sena also said that one of her secrets to getting better is her husband, fellow "Rak of Aegis" cast member, Robert Sena.
Except for the couple, the musical’s cast members went through an audition process for their roles.
They include including comedienne Cacai Bautista and singer Aicelle Santos.
The musical will cap PETA's 46th Theater Season.
