MANILA – The British Embassy has tied up a number of establishments in Manila for the British Food Month, which will run until February 9.

The event aims to educate Filipinos about how British cuisine has evolved through the years.

“Filipinos and Britons share a passion for food. We are pleased to be working with the top hotels and some great British brands to offer a huge variety and range of flavors. Food and drink is a key sector for the UK and one of our growing exports to the world. We are known for the freshness, sustainability and quality of our food, as well as for our continuous research and innovation,” said British Ambassador Asif Ahmad.

“We have adapted to foreign influences and we have rediscovered some of our old recipes. We hope that British Food Month will show you that UK cuisine is more than just fish and chips,” he added.

Dusit Thani in Makati is holding a Great British Carvery Brunch on all Sundays of January. The hotel’s visiting British chef, Derek Quelch, will be preparing special menus.

EDSA Shangri-La, on the other hand, is currently hosting high tea during The Great British Afternoon Affair at its new lobby lounge, and is offering The Great British Feast by British executive chef Warren Brown at HEAT buffet restaurant.

UK-based hotel chain Intercontinental Manila is holding a British Pub Grub at Gambrinus Bar and Sol Y Sombra. Mandarin Oriental Manila, on the other hand, features an Anglo-Indian buffet at Paseo Uno.

Meanwhile, British multinational retailer Marks & Spencer is giving discounts on certain food items until February 15. It is also set to introduce The Singleton, Diageo’s new brand of single malt whiskies, later this month.

The British Food Month is part of the embassy’s This is Great Britain campaign, a five-month celebration which will culminate in March 2014 with the Great British Festival weekend at Bonifacio High Street in Taguig.
