Antonio's slips in rankings of Asia's top restaurants

MANILA, Philippines – Fine dining restaurant Antonio’s in Tagaytay City slipped further in this year’s Miele Guide, which covers the best food destinations in 18 Asian countries.

Antonio’s, housed in a one-hectare compound tucked away in the countryside, ranked 17th in the Asia’s Top 20 for 2013 list of the Miele Guide, the only Philippine entry this year.

Its previous rankings in the regional dining guide include 11th (2011/2012), fifth (2010/2011), 17th (2009/2010) and 10th (2008/2009).

Antonio’s is the only restaurant in the Philippines that has consistently been included in the Miele Guide.

Aubergine, a French restaurant in Fort Bonifacio established by the International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management, reached the 18th spot in the prestigious list in 2009.

“Antonio’s in Tagaytay has consistently ranked among our Top 20 restaurants since this guide’s inception. Visitors have fallen in love repeatedly with the restaurant’s hacienda-themed ambience and the fresh and flavourful cooking of chef Tonyboy Escalante,” the Miele Guide said.

Robuchon Au Dome, the Macau restaurant of celebrity chef Joel Robuchon, edged out Iggy’s of Singapore as the top dining spot in Asia this year.

Another Robuchon restaurant, L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon in Hong Kong, landed in third place.

Soaring to second place is Waku Ghin, a new Japanese restaurant in Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands run by Australian chef Tetsuya Wakuda.

The 2013 Miele Guide is dominated by restaurants from China with seven (five of them are from Hong Kong), followed by Singapore with five and Indonesia with three.
