MANILA, Philippines – A different kind of fun run will be happening on Sunday, February 3, with running enthusiasts praying for others’ intentions while sweating it out on the streets.

“Takbo Para kay Sta. Teresa”, will begin with a Mass at 6 a.m. at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Shrine Parish on Broadway corner 5th Street in New Manila, Quezon City.

Also billed as “Takbo ko, dasal mo”, the Carmelite-organized fun run is one in a series of events leading to the commemoration of the 500th birth anniversary in March 2015 of the Carmelite Saint Teresa of Avila, master of prayer and first woman Doctor of Church.

After the Mass, each runner will have in his or her armband pocket a slip of paper containing others’ prayer intentions.

“These intentions or petitions runners will take to heart while giving their heart a workout, and at the end of the run will drop the prayer slips in a huge box which will then be prayed for by the Carmelite Sisters for a whole month,” organizers say.

“Takbo ko, dasal mo” will start after Mass at the OCDS House of Prayer on 5th St., right behind the church, wind through Broadway Ave., Gilmore, N. Domingo, Dona Hemady, 13th St., Victoria St., and end at starting point.

Runners may take the full 5km challenge, or go for shorter 3km run, while others may do the 3km Walk.

Registration is ongoing at the Mt. Carmel Shrine. Registration forms may also be secured at Royal Sporting House branches in Robinsons Padre Faura, Alimall Cubao, and Glorietta; at the Reebok Store at Festival Mall in Alabang and the Shoe Shop in Alabang Town Center.
