Recipe: Detoxifying juices

MANILA – Filipinos are known to be food lovers. However, an expert believes that people must be wary of their diet because of the amount of toxins that come with the food we eat.

Dr. Harris Acero of Integrative Medicine Center said Filipinos, aside from being diet-conscious, must also try to detoxify regularly to cleanse the body of excess fats that may harm internal organs.

"It is a procedure or a way kung saan we can excrete toxins in the body. Kapag mataas ang toxins natin sa katawan natin, doon mag-uumpisa ang lahat ng mga problema, lahat ng mga sakit, at manghihina, basically, ang ating mga organ," he said.

While detoxification may sound expensive, Acero said there are cheap and natural ways to get rid of toxins inside the body, and you can actually by the ingredients in the nearest market.

Below are some recipes for those who want to try detoxifying regularly from a "TV Patrol" report of Winnie Cordero.

Veggie fruit juice

Ingredients:

  • 1 piece of saba
  • 1 cup of talbos ng kamote
  • 1 cup of talbos dahon ng sili
  • 1 cup of talbos ng saluyot

Procedure and dosage:

  1. Blend all ingredients in a blender with 2 glasses of water.
  2. Drink 1 glass of veggie juice 30 minutes before meals for 2 weeks.

Good for:

  • Enzyme therapy
  • Blood cleansing
  • Diabetes
  • Constipation
  • Colon cleansing
  • Weak lungs
  • Insomnia

Saluyot juice

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of saluyot leaves
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 pieces of calamansi
  • 1 tbsp. of honey

Procedure and dosage:

  1. Blend 1 cup of saluyot and 1 cup of water in a blender.
  2. Add calamansi juice and honey.
  3. Drink 1 cup of saluyot juice before meals for 2 weeks.

Good for:

  • Fatty liver
  • Beer belly
  • Digestion
  • Colon cleansing

Garlic juice

Ingredients:

  • 10 cloves of native garlic
  • 10 pieces of calamansi
  • 1 tbsp. of honey

Procedure and dosage:

  1. Crush garlic cloves, mix with calamansi juice and 1 tablespoon of honey.
  2. Take 1 tablespoon of garlic juice twice a day before a meal if you don’t have ulcer. Take 1 tablespoon a day after a meal if you have ulcer.
