CCP turns 40, features country's top dance groups
A showcase of the country's outstanding dance groups takes place in "Turning…Turning 40", The CCP Dance Gala on February 6 (8:00 pm), Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, 2009 (3:00pm) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo.
Featuring Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, Philippine Ballet Theater, Ballet Philippines, and Ballet Manila performing the works of Ramon Obusan, Tony Fabella, Gener Caringal, Max Luna III, Sergei Vikulov and Alvin Ailey, this production is one of the highlights of the February Arts Month and the CCP's 40th anniversary celebration.
Directed by Edna Vida-Froilan, "Turning…Turning 40" integrates national and international works by renowned choreographers that exemplify the versatility of the Filipino artist.
The program includes ethnic to neo-ethnic dances like "Sounds of the Tungtungan- Yakan Wedding Ritual" by Ramon Obusan, "Darangen ni Bantugen" by Gener Caringal; contemporary dance to classical ballet such as "The Hurt We Embrace" by Max Luna III, "Dancing to Verdi" by Tony Fabella; folk dance to Filipino ballet, among them, "Pahiyas Festival" by Ramon Obusan and "Andres KKK" by Gener Caringal; and global choreography such as "Romeo and Juliet" by Sergei Vikulov and "Night Creature" by Alvin Ailey.
