MANILA, Philippines - With only a week to go before Valentine's Day, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago dished out some romance-themed jokes while delivering a speech on Wednesday, drawing laughter from the crowd.

In a speech before the Philippine Society of Hypertension and the Philippine Lipid and Athersclerosis Society on Wednesday, Santiago also touched on serious topics such as the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona and the role of the media.

But the feisty senator, who is suffering from hypertension, turned to pick-up lines once again to get the audience's attention.

Below are some of her Valentine's Day-themed jokes:

"Girl: Saan tayo magde-date sa Valentine's? Boy: Sa sementeryo! Girl: Bakit doon? Boy: Para mapatunayan kong patay na patay ako sa'yo.

"Pedicab ka ba? Pedicabang i-date sa Valentine's Day?

"Ang love, parang bayad sa jeep. Minsan, hindi nasusuklian.

"Bulaklak ka ba? Paa mo kasi maugat.

"Ang sabi nila, 'An apple a day keeps the doctor away.' Kung guwapo o maganda ang doctor, ayoko na ng apple.

"Pwede bang magpa-blood test? Para malaman mo na type kita.

"Malapit na ang Valentine's Day ah. Pero bakit ikaw mukha ka pa ring Halloween?

"Tuwing makikita ko ang mukha mo, parang gusto kong sumigaw ng 'Objection!'

"Gusto kitang kasuhan ng trespassing. Kasi basta-basta ka lang pumapasok sa puso ko.

"Empleyado ka ba? Empleyado rin ako. Pwede tayong magkaroon ng union."

Santiago earned laughs in a forum on the Reproductive Health bill last year after delivering pick-up lines on sex and relationships.

Pick-up lines have been gaining popularity in the Philippines, with both young and old people engaging in small and large-scale competitions.

V-Day, birthday messages for PNoy

Santiago, who is known for her feisty personality and quirky quotes, also gave her Valentine's Day and birthday messages for President Benigno Aquino III, who is celebrating his 52nd birthday today.

In the same speech, she said: "Of course, we all want him to be happy, so I hope that he makes a good choice if he is choosing -- at his age he should be choosing -- his possible potential mate. Unless he is resolved to be a bachelor forever, I will advise him that it is a life of complete misery. Everyone needs a partner in life, so let's wish him good luck in his search."

"Let us all wish him a happy birthday, in a sense that he might gain peace of mind and serenity. Unfortunately, according to the Dalai Lama, desire is the source of all misery and unhappiness in life. So if he is going to look for a mate, he might desire her, then he would become unhappy. I would have to consult the Dalai Lama," she said in jest.

Aquino recently admitted that he is seeing Korean television personality Grace Lee. In a press conference on Wednesday, Lee hinted that the bachelor president has a big chance of winning her heart.

"I think he's in the forefront. He's first in the line," the 29-year-old Korean said.
