Spiral launches Sunday brunch on Chinese New Year
MANILA, Philippines – Luxury hotel Sofitel Philippine Plaza ushered in the Chinese Year of the Snake by formally launching the Sunday brunch at its popular Spiral restaurant.
It was a double celebration at the hotel on Sunday with a colorful dragon and lion dance welcoming the Chinese New Year which was warmly welcomed by the guests, who jostled to get near the dancers and have their pictures taken.
The revelry was capped by a special fashion show of Dubai-based designer Albert Andrada, who launched his Orient Express collection inspired by Chinese porcelain. The fashion show is a collaboration with Shu Uemura for the makeup and Kiehls for the hairstyle. Andrada, who has designed for Middle East royalty, won the Designer of the Year at the Swarovski Bridal Show in 2002.
The Spiral restaurant of the Sofitel reopened in November after a year-long renovation.
With a total area of 2,921 square meters, the new Spiral is divided into 21 dining “ateliers,” where guests can see the food prepared in front of them. It also has a new glass-encased Parisian-style lounge called La Veranda, where most of the restaurant’s drinks are prepared and served.
For the Sunday brunch, guests enjoy everything they expect from Spiral – from Japanese teppanyaki to Brazilian churasco to raw seafood and even French classics like escargot and frog’s legs. And, of course, the popular pan-fried foie gras.
But what makes the Sunday brunch different is the addition of a Champagne station, where customers can drink all the sparkling wines they want.
Since Sunday was also the start of the Chinese New Year, the Chinese station was particularly busy, which includes auspicious dishes like the yee sang or Chinese raw fish salad and the “eight treasure” fish lip soup to Chinese favorites like Peking duck and wok-fried spareribs.
The Sunday brunch is slightly more expensive than the usual lunch buffet. It is priced at P2,950+++ for adults and P1,500+++ for children aged 4-11 on February 17 and 24.
