MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III’s wedding gift to newlywed couple Roman Romulo and Shalani Soledad was a set of eight wine glasses.

But the Palace said there is no significance to the number.

“Normally set po kasi ‘yun talaga eh. Mayroon pong pagpipilian usually — parang for a set of four, set of eight, or set of 12 po ‘yung napagpipilian sa ganyan. So tingin ko, wala naman pong siguro significance,” Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a radio interview on Sunday.

"Baka ‘yun lang din po ‘yung napili talaga na number. Just in case, baka naman may mga guests sila — ‘yung bagong mag-asawa — when they entertain. But wala naman na po sigurong iba pang significance,” she added.

Aquino had said his staff bought the gift according to the couple's bridal registry.

Aquino reportedly went to Baguio on the wedding day of his former girlfriend but had said Soledad and Romulo are right for each other.

Aquino is now seeing Korean TV and radio personality Grace Lee.

Asked about the status of the President's relationship with Lee, Valte said, “Kung alam ko man, hindi ko rin po pwedeng sabihin.”

greek weddings

I've seen greek weddings where aside from toasting the bride and groom, guests break plates, glasses and many others.

Wine Glasses

There's a superstition that if one gets glasses as gift which are breakable, the relationship could break. His Pnoy hoping this to happen between the couple?
