Food shorts: Valentine's Day promos

MANILA – A number of restaurants are offering special promos to make food lovers happy this Valentine’s Day.

Casa Roces in San Miguel, Manila is offering two Valentine set menus under its “La Semana de Amor” promo from February 13 to 16.

The Strawberry infusion (P1,299 per person) features oysters poached in their shell with cucumber, strawberry ice and mignonette; strawberry and spinach salad with candied walnuts and liquid feta cheese served on a bed of quinoa; peppercorn-crusted bacalao pan-roasted with beetroot risotto, strawberry chutney and beurre blanc sauce; and a strawberry textures dessert.

The Chocolate Infusion (P1,399 per person), on the other hand, features cocoa-chili rubbed chicken skewers served with cauliflower and white chocolate puree; pomelo salad sprinkled with cocoa nibs and dark chocolate shavings topped with sweet yogurt and pistachios; spicy cocoa and toasted almond-crusted salmon fillet served on a bed of squid ink risotto and saffron lemon butter sauce; espresso-rubbed filet mignon in dark chocolate and port wine reduction with sweet potato puree and braised mushroom ragout and local greens; and a chocolate textures dessert.

C2 Classic Cuisine is offering “Salu-Salo Sa Araw ng Puso” set platters for couples, families and friends until February 16.

Set entrees for two include: Set A (pandan rice, gising-gising, rellenong bangus, sinampalukang chicken inihaw, leche flan and pandan iced tea); Set B (pandan rice, laing, seared tilapia in coconut emulsion, ribs caldereta, turon ala mode and sago’t gulaman) and Set C (pandan rice, lumpiang hubad, crispy kare-kare, sizzling bangus belly, suman panna cotta and buko pandan shake).

There are also platters that can serve four to five persons: Set A (pandan rice, gising-gising, sinigang na ulo sa miso, chicken and pork BBQ, ribs caldereta, leche flan and pandan iced tea); Set B (pandan rice, sumpia, tinolang binakol, crispy kare-kare, sizzling bangus belly, bibingka soufflé and pandan iced tea); and Set C (pandan rice, laing, Batangas bulalo, seared tilapia in coconut emulsion, sizzling dinuguan, turon ala mode and pandan iced tea).

C2 has branches at The Ledge at Shangri-La Plaza mall, Midtown wing of Robinsons Place Manila, Atrium in Megamall, along Misourri Street in Greenhills, The Laketown Wharf in Sucat, Parañaque and Summit Ridge Hotel in Tagaytay.

5-course dinner at The Blackboard

The Blackboard by Chef Michel at The Podium Mall in Pasig City is offering a five-course dinner that can be customized by guests. Males can even impress their dates with a special blackboard message that says “Will you marry me?” or “Thank you for making me the man of your life?”

Some of the recommended dishes at The Blackboard are grilled chicken with mango Caesar’s salad, tapas of French baguette or crostinis with an assortment of dips and spreads, grilled gazpacho shot, poached salmon with orange hollandaise sauce, grilled salmon on ratatouille with tomato and ginger chutney, mushroom-stuffed beef tenderloin with green pepper corn sauce, mushroom-stuffed beef tenderloin with port wine glaze, crab and tiger prawn ravioli in coconut and lemon grass broth, and strawberry cheesecake.

Guests may also have the dishes named after them if they call or e-mail their special requests before February 12.

On Valentine’s Day, Casa Armas recommends two menu options: Start with potato leek soup, followed with a salad of mixed greens with vinaigrette dressing; for the entrée, a choice of Pollo al Ajillo (garlic chicken) or Solomillo ala Pobre (beef tenderloin cooked in olive oil and garlic); and for dessert, Canonigo (slow bake soft meringue). The meal is served with two glasses of red wine. The Valentine nenus for two are at P1,200+ (chicken) and P2,100+ (steak), respectively.

Raintree Restaurants are offering Valentine specials until February 16.

At M Café (Greenbelt 4, Makati), the special meal starts with Duck Dumpling In Fragrant Duck Broth and Salted egg tiger prawns, mesclun and kimchi vinaigrette salad, followed by an entree choice of Charsiu ribeye with green pea mint mash, roasted mushrooms and root vegetables or Sweet shoyu glazed grilled gindara with uni cream gnocchi, stir fried bokchoy, shimeji mushrooms and edamame. End the meal with Chocolate Lime Cream Marquise for dessert. Rate is P1,295 per person.

Mr. Jones (Greenbelt 5, Makati) goes hearty with US beef patty stuffed with Tillamook cheddar, fries and beetroot chops for P350.

Stella (Bonifacio High Street Central, Taguig) offers The Stella Fondue, featuring Emmenthal and cheddar melt with grilled meat and vegetable skewers, for only P695.
Saboten (Serendra, Taguig)sweetens its Special Sharing Set that comes with Adzuki Bean Cheesecake for P995.

MoMo (Ayala Triangle, Makati and Eastwood, Quezon City) offers set selections. Set 1 starts with Smoked Bacon and Saffron Mussel Soup, and Artichoke, Stawberry Tomato Salad with Cherry Balsamic Vinegar; a main course of Grilled Salmon with Ahi Sauce; capped with Two Berries Chocolate Cake for P1,250 per person.

Set 2 includes Tuscan Cream Onion Soup, Grilled Seafood Salad with Creamy Ranch Dressing, Merlot Braised Herb Crusted Short Ribs with Parmesan Mashed Potato, and Two Berries Chocolate Cake for P1,450 per person.

Terraz (Zuellig Building, Makati) offers a set menu featuring Five Spice Oven-Baked US Duck Breast Salad with Raspberry Dressing, Foie Gras, and Balsamic Vinegar; Caramelized Onion Cream of Potato Soup with Crispy Bacon Strip and Truffle Oil; Seafood Medley (Norwegian Salmon Confit with Mussel, Prawn, Scallop, Horseradish Sabayon, Herbed Marble Potato, and Braised Beans); and Cinnamon Coffee Jelly with Rose-Scented Chocolate Mousse and Preserved Strawberry and Candied Ginger.

Restaurant Verbena of Discovery Country Suites Tagaytay features a special a la carte Valentine selection from February 14 to 16.

The menu includes three choices for starters -- Baked Oysters with Pink Champagne, Petite Greens, Tobiko Caviar & Lemon Verbena Cream, Smoked Bacon & Corn Bisque with Double Smoked Bacon, Crispy chicken oysters, Charred Corn and Parmiggiano Reggiano, and Mushroom & Foie Gras “Cappuccino”with Pistachios, Chives and Morel Powder.

The main course features Crispy Chilean Seabass with Lucban Longaniza Risotto, Fresh Parmesan, and Pimenton Butter, Lamb Two Ways (Crispy Lamb Riblets and Braised Lamb Shank Ragout) with Feta Cheese, Tomato Basil CousCous and Lamb Jus, Steak and Lobster USDA Ribeye (200g) and Rock Lobster Tail au gratin with Twice Baked Potato, Baby Asparagus and Parmesan-Tomato Bernaise and Cabernet Reduction, and USDA Prime Rib “Rossini” Slow Roasted Ribeye (300g) with Pan Seared Foie Gras Duck Fat with Baby Potatoes, Haricot Verts and Pinot Noir Sauce.

Dessert is Chocolate Souffle with Lemon Verbena Chantilly Cream.

Couples can also book an overnight stay during Valentine weekend from February 14-16, starting at P12,000++ for a deluxe suite.

Mandarin Oriental, Manila offers a host of Valentine treats. On February 14, Tivoli serves a five-course French dinner menu created by executive sous chef Remi Vercelli at P3,500+++ per person, with an option for wine pairing for an additional P1,500+++ per person. Paseo Uno offers a Valentine’s Day dinner buffet, priced at P2,400+++. Executive Chinese chef Hann Furn Chen of Tin Hau has created Chinese set menus, starting at P1,500+++.

MO Lounge serves a pre-Valentine afternoon high tea with an array of homemade pastries by executive pastry chef Darren Harding. The MO Tea Time is available from 3-6 p.m. on February 11-13 at P1,600 nett for two persons.

The hotel also has Valentine room package starting at P6,500++ for a deluxe room inclusive of: buffet breakfast for two, a bouquet of red roses, unlimited Internet access, and complimentary local calls. Valid from February 12-16.
