Men happier with love life than women, survey says

MANILA, Philippines -- While more than half of Filipinos are happy with the love of their lives, some 13% of Filipinos -- mostly young men -- do not have a love life at all.

According to the results of the Fourth Quarter 2012 Social Weather Survey (SWS) released Wednesday, 54% of those surveyed said they are very happy with their love life, while 33% expressed hope it would improve. Meanwhile, 13% did not have a love life at the time of the interview.

The survey was conducted from December 8 to 12 last year, and used face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults in Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

The number of respondents who said they are happy with their love life showed a slight decrease from the 59% recorded in December 2011.

Filipino men appear to be happier with their love life than women in 2012. According to the survey results, 58% of the male participants rated their love life as "very happy," compared to only 49% among female participants.

Among those who said they do not have a love life, 31% of men aged 18 to 24 were in the situation. This is the highest rate of those without love life among the male participants across age groups.

Meanwhile, 31% of the women 55 years old and above said they do not have a love life. This is higher compared to the rest of the age groups which ranged from 4% to 15%.

Looking for love

More than three thirds of Filipinos believe that love will simply come to a person, while a little under a quarter think that love should be actively pursued.

According to the survey results, 22% of Pinoys believe in planning to "find" love, but an overwhelming 78% believe that love eventually just comes.

Of the female participants in the survey, 84% believe love simply comes compared to 72% of the males.

Not surprisingly, the percentage of male participants who said love should be pursued (28%) was higher than females (16%).

Happily married

According to the survey, adults who are married or with a live-in partner appear to have a happier love life than adults who are single, or those without a spouse or partner.

Of married adults who participated in the survey, 63% said they are very happy with their love life. Among the respondents who have a live-in partner, 54% said the same. Meanwhile, 31% of those who are single rated their love life as "very happy."

Happiness with love life, according to the results, is higher among married men (67%) than among married women (58%).
