Pinay sexpert promotes masturbation for good health
MANILA, Philippines - Pinay "sexpert" Eleanor Leung, owner of Pleasure Place, promotes masturbation for good health.
I was able to visit my lovely friend Eleanor in her Makati branch to learn more about her views on healthy sexuality and check out the popular sex toys people have been raving about.

Pleasure Place is a retail store that specializes in sexuality items such as sex toys, vibrators, books, costumes and enhancers.
The shop takes pride in carrying the best erotic products that enhance and educate people about themselves and their intimate partners.
It was started 8 years ago by Eleanor and her partner.
"I grew up here in the Philippines but left in my 20s for the United States. Then I came home to live in the Philippines with my love and life partner," she said.
According to Leung, she and her partner were sex toy users in the US. When they got back to the Philippines, they realized that they couldn't find good toys to use.
"So we thought of operating a store to introduce the best sex toys into our country," added Leung.
Pleasure Place was born with a branch in Metrowalk Mall in Meralco Avenue in Pasig City. It now has 3 branches, including the new ones in Makati and Boracay.

"The first day we opened, we sold so many toys and until now we've never stopped," added Leung.
Reaching out to the Pinoy market
"Sex is universal. No matter what race color or creed, it is an innate desire that we should express positively," added Leung.
Leung explained that the store initially attracted a predominantly female market.
"In the beginning, our customers were 70% female then 30% male. Then the store evolved and as time went by, now we have more couples coming in who want to spice up their sex life," explained Leung.

Leung has also grown to learn more about the customers that she meets over the years.
She explained that the women were a bit shy and discreet at first but nowadays, they are very proud of being sensual.
"Based on my experience, the Filipinos are very adventurous when it comes to sex but they don't talk about it. Sometimes, they are too shy to express it," Leung said.
According to Internet reports from psychologists, sexual shyness stems from negative behavior or misunderstood concepts taught by parents or educators such as that sex is dirty or a sin.
"But that was before when there was a lack of sex education. I'm amazed that the Internet and modern psychology has changed things in so little a time. It has opened minds and hearts," added Leung.
One of Leung's main mentors is Dr. Betty Dodson PhD. Dr. Betty (www.dodsonandross.com/about-us) is a popular advocate of sexual psychology and liberation based in New York City. She is also acclaimed for conducting sex therapy classes that heal people from negative sexual beliefs.

"Dr. Dodson is the Mother of Masturbation. She holds clinics and hosts TV shows that promote masturbation and orgasm for sexual health. She also has numerous books and videos about loving one's self and creating good sex lives...People pay thousands of dollars just to consult her or hear her speak," said Leung.
She said that her real expertise was molded by her own day-to-day experience with her clients.
"I meet different clients every day and make sure I go out of my way to help them and listen to what they need," added Leung.
Aside from selling products and literature, Leung also does counseling for selected clients.
"Modern scientists have already proven that masturbation is good for the health," said Leung.
"Masturbation and sex is an exercise that creates blood flow. It strengthens the urinary bladder, helps maintain hormones and prevents muscle atrophy and maintains a healthy prostate [for men]," she explained.

Several modern doctors, genitourinary physicians and gynecologists also support Leung. They believe it's healthy for people to masturbate and have an active sex life.
"There was one incident about a couple who came to me. The woman had a tumor because she wasn't having penetrated sex. I recommended a strap-on dildo that helped her discover more about her true physical condition. She eventually got operated on and healed," added Leung.
Reports about the benefits of masturbation on cancer are also available on the Internet. According to a report from BBC, several researchers have found new evidence that masturbation can reduce cancer risk. Check out http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3072021.stm.
Leung also said that people who are more open about one's personal sexuality are also keen on developing a good body and genital hygiene.
She also believes that masturbation helps build harmonious relationships.
She noted that if we listen to our body pleasures, then we can learn to love ourselves and eventually communicate them perfectly to others.
"If a woman goes to me and tells me she has lousy sex, then she's a lousy communicator," added Leung.
