MANILA, Philippines – A condom maker is handing out free samples of its products to men and women who are buying flowers for their special someone at the Dangwa market in Manila this Valentine’s Day.

DKT Reproductive Health Inc., makers of Trust and Frenzy condoms, said in a statement that the activity is part of its thrust to promote safe and informed reproductive health choices.

The company has been doing this for four years, it added.

The Department of Health used to give away free condoms during Valentine’s Day as a response to the rising number of HIV/AIDS cases in the country. The DOH stopped the practice in 2011.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines earlier warned that distributing free condoms may give the youth the impression that it is okay to engage in pre-marital sex.
