Which airline serves the best food?
MANILA, Philippines - Turkish Airlines is your best bet if you want a good in-flight meal, at least according to a survey released by Skyscanner, a travel search site.
More than 100 passengers from around the world were made to score food served in 19 international airlines according to presentation and taste. Turkish Airlines got the highest score of 86% for its menu, which includes dishes such as stuffed eggplant and walnut pear tart.
"Aside from standard meals, the airline also offers a range of special meals including children's, Kosher, vegetarian and seafood options," Skyscanner said in a statement.
Singapore Airlines ranked second with a score of 81%, closely followed by Etihad Airways of the United Arab Emirates with 80%.
American Airlines was at the bottom of the list with a score of 47.5%.
The survey was conducted last year.
"The stereotype of the barely edible in-flight meal appears to be a thing of the past. In today's highly competitive marketplace, airlines have to stand out from one and another, ensure the passengers' on board experience is a positive one, and ultimately generate customer loyalty," said Skyscanner food expert Mary Porter.
"This investment in food appears to have been successful -- many reviewers in our study described food as being 'delicious' or 'tasty' and over half of the airlines included in the study achieved a score of 70% or more," she added.
A number of celebrity chefs have tried their hand at preparing airline food, from "Hell's Kitchen" and "MasterChef USA" star Gordon Ramsay to Singapore's Sam Leong.
