Velvet brings this year's Oscars to Pinoy viewers
MANILA, Philippines - Velvet proudly brings back to its viewers the complete live coverage of the biggest movie event of the year, the 82nd Academy Awards.
More popularly known as the Oscars, the Academy Awards is an annual event presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honor and recognize various professionals in the film industry -- writers, directors and actors who exemplify excellence in their field.
This year's Oscars, to be hosted by award-winning funnymen Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, showcases an unusual number of 10 nominees in the Best Picture category -- Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds, The Blind Side, District 9, An Education, Precious: based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire, A Serious Man, Up, and Up in the Air.
The annual event is also putting on a youthful face, recruiting teen superstars Miley Cyrus and Zac Efron, as well as Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart of the Twilight saga fame as Oscar presenters.
To kick off the Oscars fever, Velvet mounts an on-ground campaign, the Oscars Tribute Exhibit 2010. The photo exhibit, which made its debut last year, showcases memorable scenes from Oscar-winning movies as interpreted by powerhouse teams made of actors, models, celebrities, stylists, makeup artists, and photographers.
This year, the theme is Most Memorable Couples and Dynamic Duos. The Oscars Tribute Exhibit will have its grand opening at the Ayala Museum on March 4 at 6:30 pm. It will then be open for public viewing from March 5 to 12 at the lobby of Greenbelt 3 and from March 13 to 19 at the Eastwood Mall.
Watch the complete live coverage of the Oscars on Velvet (SkyCable channel 53) on March 8 starting at 6:30 a.m., with the primetime telecast on the same day at 7 p.m. and an encore telecast on March 13 at 7 pm.
