While the Oscars recently took the world by storm with a bevy of equally illustrious and exceptional thespians in the movie industry, a Filipina received huge compliments from Hollywood designers with her beautiful terno crafted by Cebu designer Cary Santiago.
The Filipina was no less than President and COO of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. Charo Santos-Concio, who attended the much-awaited event of the year together with head of Cable Channels and Print Media Group Jose Ramon “Monchet” Olives.
In an article, “Charo at the Oscars,” written by Butch Francisco in The Philippine Star last March 5, Santos-Concio shared her experience after witnessing the 81st Academy Awards. She said she received the invitation from ABC Disney, the company that brought the Oscars to the US and different parts of the globe. It is also the network that supplies foreign shows to ABS-CBN and Studio 23.
Santos-Concio said she was surprised by Hollywood guests Sam George and Kevin Kline's favorable remarks about her terno. The gown looked even lovelier because she carried it perfectly. She also expressed her respect and admiration to the people behind the Oscars who were very professional.
After the victory of dark horse contender Slumdog Millionnaire, filmmakers and actors are hoping that independent films will flourish in the movie industry. In another article by L.A. Correspondent Baby K. Jimenez of The Philippine Star, Santos-Concio was asked whether Star Cinema will support more independent films, and she said they are considering it in the firm's plans.
It was about a year ago when Santos-Concio was promoted head of the Kapamilya network. Her driving force to be part of television, whether under or away from the klieg lights, inspires others to create worthwhile entertainment and information.
In Metro Magazine’s October 2008 issue, wherein the network head honcho was featured, she said she involves herself with the company’s daily grind, and encourages synergy and good content.
For a person of passion to be in an extremely competitive world, it takes a great woman like Charo Santos-Concio to be on top of her league.
