MANILA, Philippines - The presidential candidate that has the most monggo (mung beans) is most likely to win in the upcoming elections, at least according to a bookshop in Luzon.

Pandayan bookshop recently thought of conducting a monggo survey, where customers get to place monggo inside plastic bottles labeled with names and faces of the presidential candidates.

All of Pandayan bookshop's 32 branches in Luzon are currently conducting the monggo survey. The beans from each branch will be gathered and counted after the campaign period to determine which candidate is most supported in the region.

Dante Cruz, manager of the Pandayan bookshop in San Jose, Nueva Ecija, said this kind of survey is more easily understood by the masses. He made it clear, however, that the votes will not reflect the owner's political preference.

"Monggo is for the masses, it's an idea that my boss came up with. It's more believable [than the current surveys we have]," Cruz said in Filipino.

Other residents, for their part, said the monggo survey is more believable than the current survey results aired on television and radio.
