MANILA, Philippines -- Summer has officially started in the Philippines, state weather bureau PAGASA said Monday.

PAGASA, in a press statement, said the end of the northeast monsoon, or the "amihan," means that the summer season has arrived.

Weather across the country will be mostly sunny, with warm and humid air, the bureau said.

No tropical cyclone existing within the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of Monday, but isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms may occur over the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao.

Strong easterly winds may also prevail particularly over eastern Visayas and Mindanao, which will experience moderate to rough coastal waters, PAGASA added.
