MANILA, Philippines -- Kris Aquino's emotional live TV appearance on Thursday swept local social media, with Pinoy netizens deciding on "teams" to join. While some chose between Aquino and her former husband James Yap, others had "Team Bimby" in mind.
In her interview on "TV Patrol," the 42-year-old actress-host wept as she addressed the allegations of Yap, with whom she has a son James "Bimby" Yap, Jr.
Aquino, who appeared with her sisters Pinky, Viel and Ballsy during her interview with news anchor Ted Failon, spoke at length about an incident on December 3, when Yap allegedly "forced himself on her."
She said Yap's advances, which the star cager has denied, has had "effects" on their son Bimby. This, and three other incidents where Yap allegedly caused "distress" on their son, Aquino said, were what prompted her to file a temporary restraining order (TPO) against her former husband.
Yap, in a press conference on Wednesday, likewise turned emotional over the growing animosity of his son towards him, which he attributes to Aquino's alleged "brainwashing." He also accused Aquino of invoking her brother President Benigno Aquino III"s being in power when she made a veiled threat.
Aquino denied the allegation on Thursday, saying Yap's "jeopardizing" of her brother's good name is "unfair."
The "Kris TV" host went on to announce her resignation from all her programs, effectively quitting showbiz, as a way of ensuring the welfare of her son -- away from the limelight.
On micro-blogging site Twitter, netizens were quick to express their opinions on the "Kris-James" controversy. While others sided with Yap, others expressed sympathy for Aquino.
A number of netizens, however, expressed disappointment over the turn of events where a five-year-old child is caught in the middle.
