MANILA, Philippines – Supermodel and “America’s Next Top Model” host Tyra Banks was given a “best-dressed” nod at the 4th Annual Blossom Ball wearing a creation by Filipino designer Francis Libiran.

deco design. 'Yung lines ginawa ko kasi
medyo curvy si Tyra, so nae-enhance 'yung
pagka-sexy niya." Photo courtesy of

Libiran shared that it was through “America’s Next Top Model” producer Michael Carandang that he was able to communicate with Banks to design dresses for her.

“With the help of Mike, siya ‘yung naging parang tulay ko kay Tyra,” he said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

“Ang ginawa ko, nag-send ako ng mga sketches, tapos in-approve ni Tyra, tapos nagpadala na ako agad ng mga clothes for her. Three gowns ‘yung pinadala ko sa kanya sa New York. It was just a gift for her.”

Libiran did not expect Banks would wear one of his “gifts” at a public event. He was e-mailed by Banks’ assistant informing him of the supermodel’s choice to don his creation, Libiran said.

“Nung nabalitaan ko na ginamit niya sa 4th Annual Blossom Ball event, tinawagan ako agad ni Michael Carandang and pagsagot ko ng phone, I was so teary-eyed,” he shared.

“Kasi through Mike binigay ko lang ‘yung damit as a gift to Tyra not knowing na susuutin niya, so nagulat nalang ako nung binalita niya sa akin na suot and na-include pa siya sa best-dressed sa red carpet event.”

Libiran said this Hollywood feat for him is a dream come true.

“After hearing that, nag-thank you Lord talaga ako, because it’s such a privilege na mabihisan ang isang Hollywood star knowing na Filipino designer, na masuot niya lang, malaking bagay na sakin,” he said.

“Ito naman nag-start sa dream lang. Everyday I would pray na sana I can make it internationally, so kung may dream kayo na ganoon – sa mga aspiring designers – go for it, don’t stop, go on, continue, ‘wag kayo magi-give up.” -- Report from Gretchen Fullido, ABS-CBN News
