Gay actor doesn't want transgenders in Miss Universe
MANILA, Philippines – Gay rights groups may have praised the Miss Universe Organization for allowing transgenders to join the pageant, but a gay comedian believes that only those who are naturally born females should have the chance to be crowned the world’s most beautiful woman.

Comedian-host John Lapus, whose latest role in Star Cinema film “Moron 5 and the Crying Lady” is a woman, said sex-change women should have their own beauty pageant.
“I grew up watching Miss Universe. Contest na pambabae ‘yan eh,” Lapus, who is openly gay, said during a press conference for the successful run of “Moron 5.”
“Much better kung ang Miss Universe Organization [ay] gawawa ng Miss Gay Universe, [kung saan] maglalaban-laban ang mga transgender, ang mga ‘operada’ ika nga.
“Kasi at the end of the day, naniniwala ako na ang Miss Universe na kinalakihan ko panoorin ay para lang talaga sa babae,” he added.
On the possibility of local pageants following suit, Lapus pointed to the legal requirements for transgenders who want to join a beauty contest for women.
“I doubt it because ang pagkakaalam ko, kaunti lang ang mga bansa na pinapayagan na ligal na makakapag-change ng gender ang isang transgender, maski gender at pangalan, automatic maiiba ‘yun dahil pangalang lalaki siya pinanganak,” he said.
The Miss Universe Organization said early this week that transgenders may compete in the pageant provided that they meet “legal gender recognition requirements.”
Following the announcement, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc., the organization that sends Philippine representatives to the annual Miss Universe pageant, said it respects the decision of the Donald Trump-led Miss Universe Organization and is now awaiting the official guidelines regarding transgender candidates.
But the group, which will hold this year’s Binibining Pilipinas coronation night on Sunday, did not mention if it will follow suit.
