MANILA, Philippines - In an effort to strengthen its newest microblogging product, Yahoo Inc. is giving out Apple products to those who can send the best and most creative "memes," or fragments of interesting information.

Yahoo is set to launch its "Meme of the Week Challenge" on April 21, which calls on users of the Yahoo Meme microblogging service to make creative representations of their views on various topics through text, music, pictures and videos.

The company will award iPod nanos and Yahoo premiums to the "most popular, original and relevant" posts twice a week.

The grand winner, meanwhile, will get to own the recently-launched iPad tablet computer.

To join the contest, one must have a Yahoo Meme account. The Meme of the Week Challenge landing page will go live on Sunday, April 18.

Similar to Twitter and Tumblr, Yahoo Meme is a microblogging tool that allows users to post short entries and follow other people's accounts.

The word "meme," defined as "a specific fragment of culture of behavior that's multiplied between individuals," was first used by popular science book author Richard Dawkins.
