MANILA -- Miss Universe 1999 first runner-up Miriam Quiambao explained why she made a "purity pledge" last year with her then fiance, Christian motivational speaker Ardy Roberto, despite having gone through a divorce several years back.

This after the host of the ANC show "Headstart," Karen Davila, pointed out that both Quiambao and Roberto already went through married life and sex before meeting each other.

While she was quick to admit that she and Roberto are definitely "not virgins," Quiambao explained that she would like to "preserve" herself for her future husband.

The two tied the knot last March in Tagaytay.

"Well, I've always told myself that I would preserve myself for my future husband," Quiambao said. "And also because I was a staunch follower of Jesus as a Christian. And the Bible says to flee from any sexual immorality."

"And because Jesus has died for my sins, I decided that I'm going to avoid any situation that will lead me to sin. Because I feel like each time I sin, parang pinapako ko ulit si Jesus doon sa krus... So ayoko nang magkasala ulit kasi sinasaktan ko si Jesus too much," she added.

In their so-called "purity pledge," Quiambao and Roberto vowed to "protect each other's purity" until they get married by not engaging "in any act that shall ignite sexual desires or passions prematurely."

Such acts, according to them, include "passionate kissing, pheromone sniffing or foreplay."

They went on to limit their affections to "kissing on the cheek, holding hands and hugging or akbay."

Now that they are husband and wife, Roberto and Quiambao said they are at their happiest.

"It's everything I hoped it would be," Quiambao said, referring to her marriage of two and a half weeks.
