MANILA, Philippines - Selected works of Fernando Amorsolo have been rendered in cross-stitch and will be displayed at a mall in Mandaluyong City next month.

The exhibit, titled "Fernando Amorsolo's Art in DMC Cross-Stitch," is slated to open at Galerie Y at SM Megamall from May 4 to 5, and at the SM Megamall Bridgeway from May 6 to 12.

It will also showcase 4 cross-stitch creations by Helen, Amorsolo's daughter.

Limited edition cross-stitch patterns will also be available to Filipinos who are willing to recreate Amorsolo's well-loved masterpieces through embroidery.

All these are part of a joint effort between DMC, maker of fabrics and embroidery threads, and the Fernando Amorsolo Art Foundation to preserve the National Artist's masterpieces.

Amorsolo, known as the Grand Old Man of Philippine Art, is known for his illuminated landscapes which often portray Filipino customs. His masterpieces are described as "the true reflections of the Filipino soul."

Four days after his death in 1972, he was honored as the first recipient of the National Artist award.
