One hundred fifty school children, boy and girl scouts of Batangas City in ages 6 to 20 underwent a whole-day road safety camp on Monday.

Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation together with the City Transportation Development and Regulatory Office and other groups taught the participants about road conduct, from the basics of road safety to traffic regulations.

According to the study of the Automobile Association, for every three minutes, one child dies in road accidents. Aiming to change this statistics and in observance of the Road Safety month, the participants were trained on motorcycle, bicycle and commuter safety, basic rules on defensive driving, basic first aid, vehicle licensing and other road courtesies. Traffic regulations particularly in Batangas City as well as road signs and signals were also taught.

Fifteen road mentors are reportedly expected to teach road safety in schools soon. Pilipinas Shell said it is expecting that this will be a continuing activity that could help more kids to become more aware and informed about road safety.
