Weekend guide: Megamall sale, Jay Park concert, farm tour
MANILA, Philippines – Got no plans this weekend? Here are some events and activities that you may want to check out.
These are not endorsed by ABS-CBNnews.com.
If you’re thinking of hitting the malls this weekend just to beat the summer heat, you might as well go to SM Megamall at the Ortigas Center, which is having its “Mega 3-Day Sale” from May 4 to 6.
SM Megamall’s over 800 stores are offering discounts up to 70%, with the mall closing at midnight on Friday and Saturday, and at 11 p.m. on Sunday.
The sale includes Forever 21’s Philippine flagship store, which is offering up to 50% in discounts.
Shoppers can also get a chance to win a P10,000 SM gift certificate by striking a pose at the second floor of the Mega Atrium and submitting the photo. Winners will be announced on May 6.
If you were among those who lined up during the record-breaking opening weekend of “The Avengers” last week, then you might want to check out “American Pie: Reunion,” the latest sequel to the 1999 hit teen sex comedy.
In the movie, the main characters (played by original cast members Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Seann William Scoot, Thomas Ian Nicholas and Mena Suvari) are all grown up. They return to their Michigan hometown for a high school reunion as the guys seek male bonding away from their wives and girlfriends. And since boys will be boys, expect generous servings of low-brow humor and sex jokes.
Critics were still not amused – nothing new here – but if you’re feeling nostalgic, it’s still good for a few silly laughs.
Korean pop superstar Jay Park returns to Manila from May 4 to 6 to promote his full-length album “New Breed” under MCA Music.
Working with top US producer Rob Knox, rap group Dynamic Duo and other artists, Park dishes out a mix of electronic hip-hop, pop and Euro dance as evidenced in the title track “Know Your Name.”
The K-pop star will perform on May 4 at 7 p.m. at Eastwood Mall Open Park, on May 5 at 7 p.m. at Venice Piazza at McKinley Hill, and on May 6 at 4 p.m. at Lucky Chinatown Mall in Binondo.
Performing with Park are teen acoustic-pop duo and YouTube sensations Krissy and Ericka, and acoustic singer Sabrina.
Also launching his album this weekend is ABS-CBN actor Xian Lim, who will be at Glorietta on May 6 at 4 p.m.
For art enthusiasts, Now Gallery at Pasong Tamo in Makati presents Norberto Roldan’s “Heretical Bias Towards Indifference.”
The exhibit will run from May 4 to 26.
For those who want to know more, here are excerpts from the exhibit notes of L. Ladia:
“In ‘Heretical Bias Towards Indifference,’ Roldan uses found text and found old paintings, continuing his predilection for history, both real and imagined, personal and public, and how they stand side by side with contemporary issues like religion, war and the global economy.
“Roldan abounds in a manually crafted and mechanically reproduced works, showing that life is somehow ‘mediated’ and images somehow ‘selected.’ He questions notions of originality as represented in our own psyche as a nation. He recomposes his found objects in the interest of pictorial form and unity, but only to a certain degree as to register the intrinsic values of these objects and no more.”
The Now Gallery is located at Unit MO5, Mezzanine Floor of the Ecoplaza Building at 2305 Pasong Tamo Extension in Makati City. Gallery hours are from Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Prado Farms in Lubao, Pampanga reopens its gates for its farm tours on all weekends of May. A highlight is the “Harvest feasts” featuring hacienda recipes using produce from Prado Farms and the Philippine Biodynamic Research Foundation Inc. members, an association of farmers from Bontoc to Bukidnon.
