Buzzfeed shines spotlight on Pinoy food
MANILA – The social news and entertainment website BuzzFeed shone a spotlight on Filipino food, citing 24 dishes that “you need in your life.”
In an article published last May 11, BuzzFeed’s weekend lifestyle editor Melissa Harrison listed some popular Filipino dishes, mentioning reasons why they are “awesome.”
“It’s time to feast,” Harrison wrote.
The dishes mentioned in the BuzzFeed article include the lumpia, sinigang, chicken afritada, cassava cake, pancit palabok, ube ice cream, pork adobo, chicken bistek, chicharon, calamansi whiskey sour, bibingka and sizzling pork sisig.
Also part of the list are kare-kare, halo-halo, lechon, biko, kaldereta, arroz caldo, dessert lumpia, longganisa, ukoy, tocino, leche flan and Filipino spaghetti.
Last January, US website Thrillist mentioned “seven entry-level Filipino comfort foods that will have you completely hooked.”
Echoing other food writers in the US, writer Andy Kryza said “signs are pointing to a boom in Filipino food” in America.
Early this year, an article on the influential restaurant guide Zagat listed “nine Filipino dishes you need to know” while giving out recommendations on where to order them in the US.
