MANILA – This year’s Miss Philippines Earth pageant was held on Sunday, Mother’s Day. And not surprisingly, one of the winners dedicated her crown to her mother.
In an interview on “Mornings@ANC” on Monday, Miss Philippines Air 2014 Diane Carmela Querrer said her victory is her “humble gift” to her mother, noting that this is her second time to join the pageant.
While she was not named Miss Philippines Earth – Jamie Herrell of Cebu City got the top prize – Querrer said she is happy with her achievement.
“I was very overwhelmed last night. Actually, it’s my second time to join Miss Philippines Earth… I told my mom that it is my humble gift to her, my success, my win,” Querrer told “Mornings@ANC” host Ginger Conejero, who was also crowned Miss Philippines Air in 2006.
“I’m just very happy and sabi nga ng mga girls kanina, hindi pa nagsi-sink in,” she added.
Querrer was asked by Earth Hour Philippines national director Atty. Angela Ibay during the pageant’s question and answer portion: “If you are faced with a skeptic, how would you explain and convince that person about climate change?”
The 25-year-old beauty from Tanauan, Batangas replied: “I will tell him that climate change is truly happening since time immemorial, it is a long overdue issue. And that is why, as stewards of the environment, every day we should be committed in thinking twice… We should check the alternatives on what we can do so we can lessen our carbon footprints and in the long run, we can be a part of the solution, of solving this long overdue issue of climate change.”
Other winners in the Miss Philippines Earth 2014 pageant include Kimberly Covert (Miss Philippines Water), Bianca Paz (Miss Philippines Fire) and Monique Manuel (Miss Philippines Eco Tourism).
