TAGAYTAY – Picnic Grove has long been a Tagaytay tourist staple offering daytrippers a quick – and cool – escape from the hustle and bustle of the metro.
While Tagaytay has become a weekend home for Manila’s elite given its proximity to the metro, tony golf clubs, year-round cool weather, acclaimed restaurants and postcard-perfect scenery, Picnic Grove has remained an accessible, welcoming spot for those who want to enjoy this ridge city on a budget.
Located in Barangay Sungay, the 13-hectare Picnic Grove has an entrance fee of only P50 per person (for 4 years old and up), with additional parking fees ranging from P35 to P100 depending on the vehicle type.
It has remained pretty much the same --with the horse range on one end, and the pathway leading to the main park on the other. Stores and vendors are still there, selling t-shirts, trinkets, packed food and other pasalubongs and souvenirs.
Cottages are also available for rent for those who want to stay longer in Picnic Grove. But for most visitors, a comfortable and relaxing day at the park is enough.
But Picnic Grove has also kept in tune with the times. One of the main attractions in the park now is the zipline. The ride costs P200 on weekdays and P300 on weekends for one-way, and P300 on weekdays and P400 on weekends for roundtrip rides. Plus, you’ll have a free photo to take home with you.
There also are inflatable slides for kids on one side of the park. Just follow where the music is coming from and you’ll spot it quite easily.
Attractions may come and go but the undeniable fact remains: Picnic Grove is still one of best spots if you just want to enjoy the view of Taal Lake and Taal Volcano.
Maileen Dayuta, who has been to Picnic Grove several times already, said she keeps coming back because of the view.
“Relaxing makita ‘yung Taal Lake kaya masarap balik-balikan,” she said.
This is what the magic of Picnic Grove – and Tagaytay itself – is really all about.
