LAGUNA, Philippines - The town of Los Baños, best known as the home of the University of the Philippines and Mt. Makiling, yields a number of good eating places even for those on a student's budget.

Los Baños, Laguna is known for many things: Mt. Makiling, the University of the Philippines campus, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), and 'buko' pie.

Also referred to as LB or Elbi, Los Baños has its famous buko pie, a certified hit for many. But that is just one of the many offers LB has in store for foodies.

Dairy Training and Research Institute (DTRI)

Fresh milk and 'kesong puti' are available 7 days a week at UPLB's Dairy Training and Research Institute Dairy Bar.

Inside the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) campus is the Dairy Training and Research Institute (DTRI) that sells a variety of dairy products. Its best sellers are the pasteurized fresh milk and chocolate milk—perfect thirst quenchers after a long walk in the campus--and ‘kesong puti’ (white cheese), a certified hit ‘pasalubong.’

DTRI makes its products on a daily basis and is open every day from Monday to Sunday.

International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)

The canteen at IRRI is a foodie destination.

Another famous food hub, especially for students, is the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) canteen. It may be one of the farthest canteens in UPLB, but people take the time to visit the place because of the wonderful food they serve. Its rice meals and desserts, plus the breathtaking view, make it one of the most sought after places in Los Baños.

Sulyaw

Meals at Sulyaw only cost P45. Bottomless iced tea goes for P10.

Catering to students is Sulyaw. A complete meal with rice, meat dish, dessert, and soup will only cost P45. And if you want to go bottomless, iced tea comes at a very affordable 10-peso price.

Mer-Nel’s Cake House

The town of Los Baños takes pride in its very own cake house that has recently proved its popularity when it was featured in "Rated K" aired every Saturday on ABS-CBN.
