MANILA, Philippines - In the week leading up to the proclamation of president and vice president of the Philippines, "Noynoy Aquino" topped the list of Google searches among keywords related to the proclamation.

Google Zeitgeist, which tracks search queries by Internet users using Google, revealed the top five searches for the week of June 3 to 9: "noynoy aquino" (1st), "chiz escudero" (2nd), "binay vice president" (3rd), "mar roxas" (4th), and "vice presidential results" (5th).

During the three-week canvas by Congress sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, the vice presidential race between Liberal Party bet Mar Roxas and Pwersa ng Masa candidate Jejomar Binay was very tight.

Binay won over Roxas, Aquino's running mate, with a slim margin of 720,000 votes. Roxas was leading the poll survey results during the campaign but Binay edged him out during the last few weeks before the elections.

"Chiz Escudero" is a surprise entry in the search list. Senator Escudero endorsed the Noynoy-Binay "Noy-Bi" tandem and started helping in the campaign in January this year.

In related searches, www.abs-cbnnews.com generated more searches for the period than the top five above.

"Kris Aquino", on the other hand, occupied the sixth slot.
